Communication and Safety

Written Realms Alpha supports local roleplay, direct messages, and multiplayer-wide channels. A world’s builders decide whether global channels are enabled and set expectations for their world, while the platform-wide Code of Conduct always applies.

Command Audience Example
say <message> (sa) Everyone in your room say The bridge is out.
'message Shortcut for say 'The bridge is out.
emote <action> (em) Everyone in your room emote studies the map.
yell <message> (y) Everyone in your zone yell The gate is open!

An emote begins with your character’s name. If a character named John enters emote studies the map., the room sees “John studies the map.”

Some worlds use core factions and language proficiency. Characters from different core factions may see speech garbled, and an emote may be reduced to a generic gesture when they do not share a language.

Use tell to send a message to a player and reply to answer the last player who sent you one:

tell Aster Do you want to explore the ruins?
reply Meet me at the north gate.

The short forms are t and rep.

Channel Command Typical use
Chat chat <message> (ch) World-wide, in-game conversation. New characters listen to chat by default.
Gossip gossip <message> (go) Opt-in, less-moderated conversation, including off-topic banter.
Clan cc <message> Conversation among members of your clan.

Chat and gossip reach listening players who share your core faction. Builders can configure or disable global channels, and clan chat is available only after joining a clan.

Use listen to inspect or change the channels you receive:

listen
listen chat
listen gossip
listen clan
listen all
listen none

listen <channel> toggles that channel. listen all enables all channels, and listen none disables all of them.

On wide desktop screens, the augmented interface also keeps a Communication Log for the current play session. It is a convenience view of recent channel and direct messages, not a permanent message archive.

Use mute <player> to stop receiving that player’s tells and channel messages. Run the same command again to unmute them:

mute Aster

Muting does not remove a character from the room or hide local world output such as nearby speech and emotes. Move away or leave the session if you need to end an immediate local interaction.

  • For a question about a world’s story or custom rules, contact one of that world’s builders. Builders appear with a ~ before their name in who.
  • For harassment or a Code of Conduct concern, protect yourself with mute, preserve useful details such as names and timestamps, and contact platform staff through the Written Realms Alpha Discord.
  • For a bug, report it in the Discord #bugs channel. Include what you expected, what happened, reproduction steps, the world and character involved, and a screenshot when useful.
  • Never post passwords, private account details, or another person’s personal information in a world or Discord channel.

World builders can answer questions and moderate their own spaces, but platform staff handle account-wide enforcement and service problems.

See Playing Together for groups, factions, and clans, or the Player Command Reference for all communication syntax in one place.
